Career Offenders Burglary Robbery Apprehension Team (COBRA)

The COBRA team is comprised of a sergeant and eight deputy sheriff investigators. The COBRA team is responsible for investigating all crimes perpetrated by juveniles in the City. They are also responsible for tracking any gang activity and gang related crimes. The COBRA Unit works hand in hand with local probation and parole officers, assisting them with probation and parole searches throughout the area. The station currently has one Los Angeles County Probation Officer assigned full time.

The COBRA Team has developed innovative and effective strategies to combat youth crimes. Chief among these programs is the TEEN COURT program.

In the Teen Court program, juveniles who are involved in crimes such as vandalism and other low grade misdemeanors are tried by a panel of six other teens from the valley. The panel is allowed to ask the offender what happened and why, and may sentence the violator. Typical sentences may include community service or a "Word Essay". Violators may also be required to sit on a future teen panel.

Thus far, the Teen Court program has processed over 700 juvenile cases with remarkable results. The recidivism rate is less than 7%!
