Community Shred and E-Waste Disposal Day
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and the City of Santa Clarita teamed up to bring Santa Clarita residents the first annual Safe and Secure Community Shred and E-Waste Disposal Day Saturday, July 26, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station - 23740 Magic Mountain Parkway, Santa Clarita.
The event turned out to be a huge success as an estimated 700 cars drove through the designated disposal areas bringing more than 16,000 pounds (8 tons) of paper, empty binders, unwanted or expired credit cards, computer disks, electronic items, appliances, computer equipment, office equipment, consumer electronics, household appliances, batteries, and more.
With IDENTITY THEFT being one of the fastest growing crimes in America. Shredding your personal papers and unwanted financial documents is one of the best ways to protect yourself. That's why the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, the City of Santa Clarita, and local businesses; Confidential Data Destruction Company, Costco, and Target teamed up to bring this FREE shred and e-waste disposal day to the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.
"Working together through programs like this one, we hope to raise awareness of how we can better protect ourselves against identity theft and rid our homes and offices of unwanted clutter at the same time," said Captain Anthony La Berge of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
Representatives and sheriff's officials who worked the day of the event commented on what a great community experience it was. Many of them even brought their own items in for destruction and disposal.
Deputies, Sheriff Explorers, Law Enforcement Technicians, professional staff members, volunteers, and representatives of the companies were all on hand to accept and process the items. Their day was very busy as they accepted up to five boxes of paper per car and even large appliances. With the success of the program, the Sheriff's Department and City of Santa Clarita officials plan to offer another Shred and E-waste Disposal day in the very near future.
